Thames Barge Cruise from Maldon: Wednesday 28^th May 2025. This trip offers coach travel and a two hour sail on a Thames Barge. These fine old ships, with their distinctive red ochre sails, evoke an era long since past. Once the East Coasts traditional cargo vessel – at the turn of the century the Thames Sailing Barge fleet numbered over 2,000 – today only a handful of traditional Barges survive. Maldon is a tidal town at the top of the Blackwater river and is home to many of the remaining barge fleet. The popular “Two Island” sail takes you from Maldon Quay, past the bird sanctuary of Northey Island, past Heybridge Basin and to the privately owned Osea Island, before heading back to the Quay.  Price £54.00 per person.
