Brooklands Museum: Sunday 8th August. Step back in time to the days of innovation, determination and record-breaking on the site of the world’s first racing circuit. Hear the stories of the pioneering men and women that shaped the world of motoring and aviation. Brooklands Museum is on the site of the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit and displays a wide range of Brooklands-related motoring and aviation exhibits ranging from giant racing cars, motorcycles and bicycles and a collection of civilian and military aircraft, including the Second World War Wellington Bomber and Concorde. Originally constructed in 1907, the Brooklands race track was the ‘Ascot of Motorsport’ in its heyday. The outer circuit was 2 ¾ miles long, 100ft wide, with two long straights joined by two sections of the banked curve up to 30ft high. Today only sections of the race track survive.
